Pothead Class THIS IS ED A POTHEAD From start to pot with chin We will use low fire red clay I measure 5 lbs per pot 1 bag = 5 pots each pot about 7″ tall 6″ round 5 pots ready Photo from google is copywrite free Shaping the pot to be more like a head The sides are flattened the back rounded more the chin rounded out profile 1 with chin & forehead the jaw defined a bit time to attach a chin use score & slip methode slip applied to scored location chin material applied chin attached firmly new profile. add nose, mouth and ears measure chin to glabella transfer measurement to pot mark distance mark centerliine indent eye socket indent nose root push out nose slip and score for nose form a thick triangle for nose score, apply slip position nose press nose on firmly use tool to blend material measure nostril width transfer measurement to pot apply coils for nostrils blend with eye tool measure mouthg width transfer measurement form upper lip, apply slip add upper lip to pot add nasolabial folds blend & change contour push in corners of mouth blend corners check profile define teeth material these will be upper teeth add lower teeth blend in material these will be lower teeth add lower lip check profil make a ball for both ears press to nearly flat results in a nice circle cut out heart shape cut heart in half determine ear location this looks ok- note slight angle current view from front add coil & attach ears The ear is drawn in Concha, helix, anti helix fossa triangularis, tragus & lobe time for the eyes pull up the eyebrow edge a bit ready for eyes measure from chin locate height of eyes measure width mark width locate material for eyes slip and score to apply press firmly- support from back use eye tool to define lids add material if needed add material for cheek left close- next right side tear duct material added check locations from above define eyelids add material as needed. cheek material added. tear duct added left eye blend, noting inside corners eyebrows located. eyebrows added. a little more added to pupils defined teeth- ready for pupils stain to add detail definition paint with burnt umber wash use water to blend & thin wash sponge off carefully gently wipe clean, rinsing sponge frequently use tool to remove stain from teeth and whites of eyes ready to dry & fire.
